Wibbly Wobbly Skeleton Craft Project

Date Submitted: October 21, 2007
Out of the graveyard to scare up some Halloweenfun, this jointed skeleton is crafted from plastic that shrinks when it bakes. Hang him in the car window and he’ll be dancing to the tunes playing on the radio. This is a fun craft project for kids to make.
Wibbly Wobbly Skeleton Craft Project
Materials:
  • Opaque shrink plastic - 8 1/4 x 10 3/4 - inch sheet
  • Black felt-tip permanent markers: fine-point and extra fine-point
  • 1/4-inch paper hole punch
  • 2 wiggle eyes, 5mm
  • 16 1-inch paper clips
  • 1 1-inch suction cup
  • White craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Paper plate
  • Typing paper
  • Masking tape
  • Oven or toaster oven
  • Potholders
  • Pancake turner
  • Needle nose pliers
  • 2 8x10 inch cardboard sheets
Print the skeleton onto paper.

Position shrink plastic on top of printed pattern and tape corners to secure.

Use the fine point marker to trace the outlines of the skeleton onto the plastic being careful not to smear. Use the extra fine-point marker to trace the inner details including circles they will be punched out later.

Remove patterns from the back of the plastic and cut apart plastic pieces along outside line, leaving black outline.

Punch holes in plastic as indicated on pattern.

Preheat oven to 250° E, or according to shrink plastic instructions.

Place plastic pieces at least I/2-inch apart on two cardboard sheets.

Bake skeleton and watch it shrink. Shine a flashlight through window if oven doesn’t have an inside light. Each piece will curl as it shrinks, but wait to remove until it completely flattens out. If pieces stick to themselves in curled position, use pancake turner to gently separate them. Remove from oven and let cool.

Remove metal hook on suction cup with pliers. Attach paper clip to protruding part of suction cup.

Connect skeleton bones with paper clips and glue wiggle eyes on skull head.

Hang the skeleton from suction cup in a house or car window.
