Default Wood Floors or Carpet ?
Old 05-02-2007, 05:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hey everyone. I just had a quick question about wood floors or carpet in a house, which one is better/cheaper and why. I am still young and want to eventually buy a house and wanted to know what everyone’s experiences have been like. Any horror stories or great stories you want to share?

I choose wood floors over carpet. Wood flooring will increase your home's value too. Carpets are harder to keep clean, get stained and are bad for allergy and asthma sufferers.

Well, if I had it to do all over again, I would definitely go hardwood - in most of the rooms. Probably would carpet the bedrooms - I hate stepping onto a cold floor in the mornings. One thing about carpet - I think I would choose something with multiple colors. That way, little specks of stuff wouldn't show. I once put wall to wall forest green carpet in the living room, thinking stains wouldn't show. Well, the stains definitely didn't show, but absolutely EVERY little speck of lint, hair, thread was visible from 100 yards away! Bad idea!!! Too bad, nice carpet!

we tore out the carpets in the bedroom, office and livingroom upstairs (we still have one bedroom that we left carpeted, but will probably change it). I would never go back to carpet-especially in the livingroom as we have indoor pets. When I sweep the floor, you wouldn't believe the hair and fluff that I get! When I had the carpet in there, I never got that much off of it.
Our basement is carpeted as we have a ceinsulated flooring-just a matter of expense at the moment as we're doing other remodeling.
We have mats on the floor by our bed that I can throw in the washer.

We have carpet. Hubby picked it out before he had kids. BAD idea! lol, it's light blue and white. Kinda like marble. It shows EVERYTHING! Especially all the red koolaid stains.

I really really want to get hardwood in the new living room and eventually get hardwood for the existing living room and dining areas.

We will be putting carpet in the bedrooms, *maybe* hardwood in my room! I think it would be nice) linoleum in the bathrooms, and I want hardwood stairs. I don't want to lug a vaccum up and down to get em clean. :D

I also want linoleum or something in the laundry room. I'm not sure what will be best in there. Linoleum or hard wood. Probably linoleum? Just in case the washer or water heater leaks? Cheaper to replace?

I just moved to a old farmhouse that has hardwood floors through out the house. So far I like them, but I may change my mind when it gets colder.
