Default jigsaw question
Old 11-16-2004, 07:45 PM   #1 (permalink)

I am afraid to use my husband's big saw. I was thinking of getting myself a jigsaw for little projects. What thickness or type of wood can you use a jigsaw on ? Thanks.

I have found that a scroll saw works best. You have more control of the wood when you have both hands on it. Also, a scroll saw allows for working on many types and thicknesses of wood by using interchangeable blades. There are many different brands of scroll saws varying in price. Check them out to see what you like and ask the salesperson any questions you may have. Craftsman and Ryobi are a couple of brands. Hope this helps and good luck!!!

I use the Jig saw for so many of my wood items such as my yard art and bigger projects. It is intimidating at first, but after you try it a few times it is really fun. I find it easier to cut out 1/2 inch 3/4 inch pine. The thinner stuff is a bit harder to cut with a jig saw because it wants to jiggle and break. I get my pine from homedepot. Let us know how it turns out!
