| Has anyone taken Gluecophage? I was wondering the side affects from it. My doc just prescribed it for me, but looking at other boards I hope I made the right choice. He let me choose from going back on the birth control pill or gluecophage. After he said some who take gluecophage lose weight, I picked that one.
Thanks,

| Hi lor1b! Are you diabetic? The reason I ask is Glucophage(also called Metformin) is a diabetic medication. It keeps your blood sugar from bottoming out. My DH is a severe diabetic and he takes it along with 2 types of insulin and another tablet called Avandia. Glucophage is dangerous if you're allergic to it, it can cause death at one dose. The mild side effect that you should notice would be very stinky gas, check with your doctor and make sure he is not giving you Glucophage for a birth control. I hope this helps you.

| Paula,
No, it's not for the birth control, but to make me have a regular cycle. He told he the drug is used for diabetics and claims it works on women's cycles. I got the generic Metformin 850mg. I had to have blood drawn to make sure my liver was okay to take it. I'm only going to try it for a few months, so if it doesn't work then I will change to bc pills.
Thanks,

I have heard about this drug being given for PCO~polycystic ovary disease.....

| Dr didn't say I have PCO. I don't do good taking big pills so after seeing the size of these, I'm going to ask just to be put on bc pills instead. Also, worried about the stinky gas too. LOL
