I quit smoking two weeks ago and am wondering if anyone else has done the same and how they feel about it. A lot of my co-workers smoke and it's hard not to go out with them and be part of the gang. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks! Barb
I don't smoke, but, I've been trying to quit drinking caffine...mostly in diet soda. I know they're different, but, equally as hard to quit. The headaches are horrible!!!
Good luck...I hope you can continue to not smoke

Ok... I replied to this once, but it didn't take. So, here's take 2:
I am a new non-smoker. I'll be celebrating my 6th month nicotine free on the 16th this month. I had help tho. After a couple of years trying cold turkey, then the patch, etc.. I finally asked my doc for help. He prescribed Chantix... and after only 2 months (it's supposed to be a 3 month program) my hubby asked me one day after dinner.. "So, when WAS your last cigarette?" I honestly don't remember when I last lit up. He asked me that on April 16, so that's the day I will count as my anniversary.
I wish you lots of good luck. It's really hard to do. But that chantix stuff works wonderfully.
I quit smoking in Feb. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. There are moments still when I would kill for a smoke but it is moments instead of days. I quit cold turkey and it was difficult because my husband smokes. He has been very very supportive and does not smoke around me very much. He limits his smoking to the laundry room and the office. That helps a lot. Hang in there! You can do it!!! We are all rooting for ya!!!
I quit 4 or 5 years ago. I remember the date, time, and what I was doing...just can't remember what year it was. My dh and I went cold turkey together. He pushed me into it. Peer pressure...what can I say?
We have two peices of advice:
1.) Find something for your hands. I went into different types of crafts. Crochet (not for me), knitting (better, but 3 deminsionally challenged), cross stitch, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, cake decorating...anything that gets my attention. I think I spend more now on crafts then I would if I'd kept smoking.
2.) Just cuz you quit doesn't mean everyone did. If you have a choice of smoking or non anywhere say first available. You get seated sooner, but learn to get use to other people going on with their lives. My idiot brother decided to quit so at holiday dinners he'd order all the smokers out of my parents house, so he wouldn't be tempted. All that accomplished was a big family fight and he still smokes.
About two years after, I took a couple puffs from a friend. I honestly don't know why I ever smoked to begin with. Good Luck!!!!
I tried quitting last winter, using the Chantix. I was having horrible headaches and even had a CAT scan. Once I blew up and screamed that I can't quit, the headaches went away. I know that I sabotaged myself. I didn't give it a chance. I will try again!!!
ladies, please be careful on the drug Chantix. there are commercials galore from a law firm saying that anti smoking drug is bad.....i pray that god give you all courage to quit......good luck
I haven't seen these ads, but then again... law firms have ads about pretty much all prescriptions these days. There will be side effects to everything you take.
well be that as it may hon, they are saying that it can cause strokes, suicidal thoughts i understand that everything has a risk. but speaking from experience strokes are not fun...just do research on the drug.....
heres one article...and no please nobody think im calling anybody mentally ill...im just concerned for all of my friends at c.c
