Post Need ideas for a bland diet for Bf's Acid Reflux
Old 07-30-2008, 10:06 PM   #1 (permalink)

Okies,

Last Friday I rushed Chad to the Hospital and we found out he has Acid Reflux. I have Gastritis so I understand. However with the med I am on I really don't worry about flare ups unless the food is way spicy. Today we went to his new doc that I found and she TKO'ed my whole menu. No more pizza, spicy food, tomatoe based stuff.

So do you ladies have any ideas for a bland diet. Cause all I can think of is boiled chicken and chicken alfrado.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm still learning my way around.

Randi

You're thinking of bland in the wrong way. You can have a hamburger, just don't dress up the meat before you cook it and find alternatives to ketchup.
Tomatoes are high acid, that's why no pizza. But you can order pizza without the sauce (my BIL has been doing it for years).
Most foods can be "toned down" for a bland diet. The good news is cooking will get a lot easier and faster.

Good luck, remember eat to live and live for something else!

Thanks Tashy, I will look at those later. He's already on Prilosec....we both are. His two favortie foods are hawaiian pizza and mexican food.

I'm gonna start cooking with alfrado sauce and see how he likes it. I'm from the south so fried foods are a must.

This bland diet thing will be good for me too. I'm morbid obese and diabetic. So changing the way I cook will be great.

I've been going through this same type of thing the past several weeks.

They told me to sleep with my head elevated at least 6 inches, not to drink caffeine after supper and do not eat anything 3 hours before bedtime. And of course, if you smoke, that doesn't help either.

I've done the first things ok, but I haven't quit the smoking yet. LOL

I just went for an ultrasound this morning and had blood work done . They want to see if it may be gall bladder related instead.

I've been really trying to watch what I eat and for 2 days now I've been pain-free. I hate to toot my own horn for fear it comes back.

Good luck to him.
