Hey ...anyone out there plagued with plantar fasciitis? I never heard of this until I was diagnoised with it and it seems many people have it...
I now have an new use for my rolling pin.....i roll it with my right foot for 3-4 mins several times a day!
In case your not familiar with this condition ...A diagnosis of plantar fasciitis means you have inflamed the tough, fibrous band of tissue (fascia) connecting your heel bone to the base of your toes.in my foot to stimulate blood flow....it all seems to be working.
YES! My son (15 years old) had a bout of this during football! The Dr. said ibuprophen (if you can take it) is the best medication for this. He was taking 4 pills 4 times a day for about 4 days, then just twice a day for about 4 or 5 more days. It finally went away, but it was pretty painful. He has kind of flat feet. I thought maybe that had something to do with it, but the dr said no.
The Dr also told him to get a sturdy pair of shoes, like Red Wings or something. HA! Yeah right. Ever see a teenage boy wearing Red Wings or any other leather support shoes? Not unless they're made by Nike, Addidas, or Under Armor and you can play basketball in them.
Actually this is something that I delt with for about 6 years on and off~when I stood all day long my Dr. suggested getting custom made orthotics. Insurance didn't pay for them but they were worth every penny I paid out of pocket!!!
That worked for about 3 years then the pain came back.
I had tried physical therapy and that really wasn't helping.
During this time I had changed Dr.s and the new Dr. believed in giving the shots in the foot!. Yea it hurt like you wouldn't believe but knock on wood I haven't had another bout with the pain in over almost 5 years!!! Just took 1 shot!
I would also suggest a good pair of tennis shoes with good support once you get the pain under control. I also rotate shoes. I try to not wear the same shoes 2 days in a row.
I knew i wasn't alone in this....since the physical therapy room is full ....3 times a week right now.....so far i haven't had much relief but i want to give this a try...also wearing othotics ....wearing a "nite splint...torture boot i call it...not all nite just 20mins twice a day....also doing tendon stretches... so far insurance picking up most ...just have co pays ! My doctor hasn't suggested any meds but i may try the ibuprophen....
Yes...a good shoe with good arch support is a must...no more bare foot walking for me...
Shot in foot was mentioned by Dr but he wants to leave that to last resort... Many Many yrs ago when i was working as a dental assistant...i recall having tendon problems (inside ankle area) and i would get shots (yeah hurt like ....) but i did get relief....I'll see how all these things go and if no relief ....I may ask for the shot!
DS#1 came home last night and his foot hurt again. Just like in football. Now we're into basketball and lots of running and such. He's back on the Ibuprophen again and hopefully this will work.
talk about rolling foot...My therapist gave me a new use for my rolling pin....it is now called Janet's foot roller...and believe it or not...it is working!
Today while I was at physical therapy Barry my therapist and I got to chatting about this problem~he said that he has had alot of luck with this:
Take a waterbottle, fill it with water and freeze it. Then once it is frozen with your socks on take and roll you foot/feet on that frozen bottle. He says that it not only relieves the inflamation it also stretches that muscle.
Just thought I would share this with ya'll!
Hope it helps! Sounds lots better then then shots!!
