Smile Martha's Weight Loss Challenge

Boy, is it ever a challange!

March 28, 2009 was my starting date. I had a gym membership for almost a year and really did nothing with it. But then I got the news that my 41st class reunion was coming up at the end of June - SO here goes!

Every Saturday and hop on the scale, grap the tape measure and here I go!

Today is Saturday May 30. It has now been 2 months since I started working out. I have lost 15 lbs and 18 inches - they tell me muscle weights more than fat and as you lift weights you also build bone density - more weight. But this type of weight is a good thing.

I have dropped from 195 down to 180.

Someone gave me a size 10 pair of jeans and I couldn't get them up over my thighs - that was a month ago. I can now pull them up anyway - still to very tight. So in a week or 2 I will try them again.

I had 3 knee surgeries and couldn't stoop down - to stiff and to much pain. I can now stoop down.

Tee hee - I can bend over to clip my toenails or tie my shoes. No crossing my legs any more.

All these little things that make life so much easier. Easier to get out of the car, easier to carry bags of groceries - easier to stand up from a couch - easier to go up and down stairs - my pool game is getting better (stronger arms, shoulders, legs, back).

You might say I am one happy old lady!

Skipped exercise yesterday as Mom came over - she will be 79 in a few more days so we gave her a couple of treats.

So, today is back to exercising some more. Time to get rid of a little more belly fat!

Well, it is now Monday. Worked out on Sunday and again this AM. Uped one of the weights, and am now doing 4 sets of 15 reps on the pieces of equipment for the abs.

Sunday night I got a lot of compliments and how am I doing it. Boy, that helps you to keep going.

Also, my pool came has come up since my muscles are stronger.

Another good day at the gym. Uped the weight on one of the exercises. Today was leg day. Only 25 days left to my class reunion. Got a size 10 pair of jeans last night. I can put them on a button them up - a tad to tight but with 25 days left to go, hopefully they will be comfortable.

I guess you could say another boring entry. The sit ups on the Back Extension are getting easier - still tough to do 4 sets of 15 reps though.

Saturday is my next day for the scale and the measuring tape.

Sometimes it is hard to stick to an eating and exercising plan, but it is better than not being happy with what you look at in the mirror on a daily basis.

As I get a little thinner, I do feel better about myself. It is easier to climb stairs, tie my shoes, do laundry and all of the other household necesasry's that none of us like doing - rather be sitting in the sun or shopping, right ladies!

How are the rest of you doing on your weight loss challenge?

Come on Shirley - you CAN do it to! Make up a good reason to do it. It should be for our health but somehow that just doesn't cut the mustard. My good reason is the class reunion. I didn't want to be the one that is "3 times herself", so to speak. Now that I am a smaller size, life is just so much easier. Set a goal to do something you weren't able to do. I didn't even realize what I had achieved until I bent down and tied my shoes - a simple thing people do everyday. but I had to drag my foot up to my knee. Silly, but what an accomplishment! I know you can do it!

Only 19 more days to go until the class reunion.

I can squeeze into a size 10, not good enough yet.

I just have to go to the gym every day now and hope I can do it. If not, the size 12 isn't that bad - it's even getting a little bit loose.

I didn't go to the gym on Saturday, so Sunday and today are now completed. Looking forward to another good workout tomorrow. I am going to start wearing 1 lb wrist weights while I walk on the treadmill. I'm back up to 17 minutes - adding 1 minute a day. I also did the bike for 2 minutes - 3 times for a total of 6 minutes.



Told my hubby I needed my bike fixed - I could ride it to exercise and then he could come and pick me and the bike up. Giggle-Giggle.

How are the rest of you doing with your challenge?
