Default dietitian/nutritionist
Old 02-19-2009, 08:24 AM   #1 (permalink)

Want to spend money on something that will really help you lose weight? Go see a dietitian or nutritionist. Don't think there's one near you? Check with your local hospital, college, or gym (some larger schools have them too-they may not be able to work with you but can tell you where to find someone)
If you are overweight your insurance may pay for some or all of a visit. Talk to your doctor.
They are out there. They can help you find exactly what will work for you.

great point Laura! I think here in ON it is even entirely covered by our medical insurance if the doctor sends you.

A dietician can help put you on a life path to healthy living and life long weight loss

While for some, seeing a nutritionist is surely very useful, I think that if you are not morbidly obese or really overweight, you can figure a lot of the stuff out yourself. I saw a nutritionist for a while and while she did help me, there is nothing or very little that she told me that I didn't already KNOW, but was just too lazy or unmotivated to put into practice, and what I didn't know already was stuff I could have found online or in quite cheap books. I think seeing a dietician only really pays off if you have some serious problems losing weight and find that you really can't do it on your own.

Once again, I think a nutritionist could help with this too! Also, if you are eating a diet appropriate to your size and activity level, then I would seek medical advice. Unexplained weight loss is a symptom of MANY different conditions
