Hi everybody.
I wish I was at the weight that some of you are at. Unfortunately I'm starting at 330 pounds. I refuse to pay what they want at weight watchers and I can't afford Nutri-system, so here I am.
It's a new year and I want a new me. It might take a long time but I'm going to do it. What works for some doesn't work for everyone. Well I'm going to count callories and exercise as much as I can. My knee's were in bad enough shape then I had a motorcycle accident in August and messed them both up even worse. So I'll just have to do the best I can as far as exercise goes.
I guess I could tell you a little about me. I live in west Texas, I'm 50 years old and will turn 51 on the 17th of this month. I have a full time job, this however isn't our busy season. My busy season will probably start in March. I'm married to a nice man who is retired and skinny as a stick. He loves anything sweet so I live in a house full of things I'm not suppose to eat.
I have been overweight my whole life. Like most heavy people I have lost hundreds of pounds and gained them all back plus some each and everytime. My top weight has been 340 pounds and the smallest I can remember is 154 since I have been an Adult. My husband loves me very much but doesn't understand what it's like. He is very supportive but doesn't understand why I just don't stop eating. A year ago they diagnoised me with having a Thyroid problem and put me on medication. I remember the nurse walking in and saying that this perscription would change everything. Well I went from 290 to 340, I cried all the time and I actually thought about suicide. Never having had those thoughts before I quit taking the perscription. The bad thoughts and depression left but the weight stayed. I'm now scared to go back to that Dr. I've lost and gained weight all by myself for years so I will just rely on myself.
I hope to get to know you all in the future because I plan on becomming a very active member.

Welcome to the group! I hope to see you posting often!
I am sorry to hear about your motorcycle accident! When you are starting off with a 'disability' it certainly can make it a challange to get started! try to find some low impact activities to get you going! If you have an aquafit class near you that would be a great place to start! Or if there is a pool where you live swimming should be kind on your knees as well as getting you a good workout.
What we all NEED is a lifestyle change. There is just no point in dieting and sweating if you are doing it in a way that can't be sustained, because we will just gain it back when we go back to our old ways of eating. Looking at it as a "new beginning" is perfect! a new way of eating and of living!
to the group buglady...i to live in texas.....well south..college station area....glad to have a fellow texan with us..sorry about your motercycle accident, thats hard..well we are here for support you can cuss, fuss and stomp your feet and we dont mind thats what were here for....good luck ill keep you in my prayers we can get through this
buglady! I am sorry about your problem with your knees. Maybe a physical therapist could give you some exercises that you could do. I am praying for you. I know we all will get this done. I am afraid to even get on the scale.
A little at a time. We need to think in small numbers. I'm not going to lose 50 lbs., it will be one pound at a time.
New here myself, but starting to find my way around a bit, nice to 'meet' you & hope to get to know everyone a bit better by the time this is over with (If I ever lose all this weight) LOL Sorry to hear about your accident, have you discussed your exercise options with your Dr.? They may be able to give you some kind of exercise that will help you out more. Good luck with everything.

Buglady just don't worry Take one day one pound at a time or one inch ...... get a weight band that you can sit with and also a ball is a good one I use to think how can u sit on a ball or lay on one for it to work BUT IT DOES it streches your body and tones giving you alot of strength also if you have a pool of warm water you are able to use that is a great start for the knees IT TAKES TIME to come off REMEMBER,....it creeped up on us over time
Hey there buglady. I guess I just wanted to say "hang in there, we are all here for you". One thing I wanted to tell you is this: I find that for me I set my goals a little lower and then start over with a new goal when I reach that one. If I set my goal at 100 pounds I would be defeated before I began because that sounds so incredibly impossible for me to accomplish. I set my first goal at 50 pounds, I can do that. It wont be easy and it will take time but I can do it! Then I tell myself even if I dont go any further, hey that is 50 pounds, I am a little healthier, I feel a little better, I look a little better, I am a lot happier with myself and I can be proud as hell of what I have accomplished! By then I think this will have me motivated to keep going to the next realistic (for me) goal. Does that make sense to anyone but me? lol
Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday night. That was really cool.
I've done this so many times and everytime I keep saying it will be the last. So just for the record this is the last time i'm doing this. I know it doesn't sound like it but i'm smiling as I say that.
First I don't pick High goals. I keep my goals at 25 pounds each. but the real goal for me is in pant sizes. I buy the next size down but only 1 pair. everytime I lose 25 pounds it's about 1 pant size. I hang the pants where I can see them and every week I try them on until they fit. Some people may get discouraged by trying them on but each week they get closer and closer to fitting so I work harder and harder until I get into them. When those fit I go out and buy the next size down and the process starts all over again. Each time I get into a smaller size I' ve won a battle. Don't ever kid yourself, this is a full out war. I've tried all the fad diets and I've ordered the pills. My Mother had me on 6 different kinds of pills when I was 14 years old. The only thing that will work is a sincable diet and exercise.
You have all read the packages that say you will be thinner by taking these pills or drinking this liquid. Well somewhere on that package it says that you will lose the weight with the pills, liquid etc.... if you follow a diet and exercise plan. which all boils down to eating right and exercise. You will lose the weight with or without thier product if you follow a good diet and exercise.
Ok I guess I've ranted and raved enough for now. lol
