How to Prevent Childhood Obesity | eHow.com
Here are a few tips to help prevent childhood obesity. So many adults struggle with their weight (me being one of them!). It's so important to teach our children to maintain a healthy weight. Perhaps some of these tips will make maintaining a healthy weight seem like lots of fun!

That is really helpful. I know my nephew is a healthy little man with thunder thighs at almost 20 months. According to his dad he eats more than and elephant.

Most parents are in sort of a denial state when their child is overweight. They think the child will "lose it later" or it's just "baby fat". My daughter, thanks to my lovely genes, will most likely have to battle her weight. I try to keep her active which, in my opinion, is the single most important key to maintaining a healthy weight. Yesterday, I took her hiking. She really enjoyed that!

Ethan don't play much. His parents are idoits and keep him in a play pen so they can play on the computer all day. When he was here in may. I put him barefooted out on the grass. I never heard a kid scream so fast. He had never had his feet in grass before...

Austin's quite the chunker too. It doesn't help that his grandparents across the street feed him a day-long meal of snack cakes, chips, and ravioli. They always tell him not to run (outside) because he might fall. I'm too rough on him when I try to get him to walk around the block with me.

I can't even buy snack cakes or a little junkfood for my house because he gets so much of it over there. Oh, and they make me look like the bad guy when I tell him he can't go over there to visit. I'm "denying him his family". I want just one oatmeal creme pie, but I have manners and won't eat in front of him without sharing. So, if I share, I'm simply enabling his sweet tooth even more than his grandparents. I can't win.

Any suggestions?

I already think you are doing the right thing by trying to get him to walk with you!! You have to eat. Maybe you can keep some apple slices with caramel dip on hand for him to enjoy while you eat your oatmeal cream pie! Or make him a "banana split" with vanilla yogurt and fresh strawberries and a drizzle of chocolate syrup! Hey, that actually sounds really good!I might make MYSELF one!

Yeah I think Ethan weights over 30 pounds now. The boy constantly eats both baby food and what his parents eat.
