| we are less than 2 weeks from starting to embrace our new life style! So what are you doing to be ready for it?
First lets address food - I am not going to get all "preachy" about what to eat (I hope! LOL) but plan to eat healthy! Do you have the food in your fridge / pantry? what will you have for snacks? If you don't have healthy choices on hand and ready, you are more likely to choose something less nutrutious. I always keep a bag of those baby carrots in the fridge and they are a favourate for both myself and my DD. A banana orange or apple will always be better for you than cookies or a chocolate bar. If you plan ahead you can make healthier choices! I also keep a list of one or two things for each food group that I have available and how many calories in each. At around 9pm when I am craving food, I will choose something from my list from a food group that I didn't eat enough of that day (other people will tell you that you shouldn't eat at that time, however, after eating a diabetic diet for a while, I have found it is better not to let my sugars get as low as they would if I didn't eat for 12 or more hours)
The less processed your food is, the heathier it is - if you plan ahead, you can make and freeze a casserole or other food for those hockey nights or any other night that you may have bought fast food or a commercialy made frozen dinner. Also, dust off that crock pot! it's a great way to have a hot meal ready for when you get home.
If you do decide to eat out - look for a heathy alternative!
- have a look at the nutritional information if you decide to have a big mac or anything like that! a couple of months ago, just for the fun of it, hubby looked at how many calories he consumed at McDonald's in just one sitting... would you believe that he had 2300 calories??!! it certainly makes me think twice before eating there!
Remember also - portion size! This is a good time to start looking at your portion sizes! If I recall, we should eat 3-4 protien portions each day. If you look at what is considered a protion, it is easy to see how we may be overeating! Most of the steaks I see at the grocery store are more meat than we should eat in a day! A 6 oz sirloin - 6 portions of protien! |
