I'm not sure if this goes here, but I saw sweetgapeach wanted a pattern for a friendship bracelet & I got this in my email from DMC. I looked it the site but couldn't find it so thought I'd post the whole pattern instead of someone trying to find it in the site. It's from June so it may be gone by now. I'm such a pack rat with good intentions to make things I keep it all I'm sure you can do alot with it since it's basic. Just change the colors.
RED, WHITE and BLUE Friendship Bracelet Materials: 1 Skein of “Bright Red” DMC Embroidery Floss (#666) 1 Skein of “White” DMC Embroidery Floss 1 Skein of “Very Dark Blue” DMC Embroidery Floss (#820) You will also need scissors, a ruler, and tape. Instructions: 1. Cut four 36” pieces of White Floss, two 36” pieces of Bright Red Floss, and two 36” pieces of Very Dark Blue Floss. 2. Take the eight pieces of Embroidery Floss, line them up and lay them side by side in the following order: Two White (W1, W2), Two Bright Red (R1, R2), Two White (W3, W4), Two Very Dark Blue (B1, B2) 3. Tie the eight pieces together with a knot, leaving a 2 – 2 ½” tail at the top. Using tape, secure the tail to a surface so that the floss will be held in place while you work. Try to keep the strands separated while working to prevent them from tangling near the bottom. 4. Take the first White strand (W1) and wrap it over, then under strand (W2) and through the loop. 5. Holding firmly onto (W2) while pulling up on (W1) towards the large knot you made in Step 1. If you notice, you’ve just made a small knot. 6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5, making a second small knot on the top of the previous knot. You have
now completed a double knot around (W2). Drop (W2).
Note: Maintain an even tension
when tightening knots throughout Bracelet. The tighter the tension, the stiffer the Bracelet. Find the tension that looks most attractive to you. 7. Now take (W1) and make a similar knot around the first Red strand (R1), wrapping (W1) over, then under (R1). Make a second knot around (R1) so you again have completed a double knot. 8. Continue making double knots across the row around (R2), (W3), (W4), (B1), and (B2). Notice that (W1) is at far right side of row when all double knots are completed. Does your row of double knots slant diagonally down to the right? It should. 9. Now pick up (W2) and work double knots around (R1), (R2), (W3), (W4), (B1), (B2), and (W1) to complete the second row. 10. Pick up (R1) and work a third row of double knots, then pick up (R2) to work the fourth row of double knots, etc., until the eighth row is completed with (B2). You have now completed one full color pattern. Notice that the strand you’re knotting with always ends up at the far right side of the row when all knots are completed. 11. Continue repeating the color pattern until your Friendship Bracelet is long enough to fit around your wrist. Tie all eight strands together in a knot (as in Step 1), then trim tail to same length as beginning tail. 12. Now tie the bracelet around your wrist with a square knot (or leave it flat for a book mark) To make more Friendship Bracelets, cut one yard of each color strand to be used. Pick up your local favorite colors of DMC Embroidery Floss at your local needlecraft shop and try using other types of DMC threads for different effects and textures.
Hints:
The number of strands of Embroidery Floss used determines the width of your
Friendship Bracelet. The eight strands in this kit will result in a Friendship Bracelet about
I used to make those all the time. I had to show my special ed teacher's asst. how to do it too. But that was about 6 years ago. So i'v dun forgot how to make the things. but I got so much floss I may try that out. Thanks debi
You're welcom Randi. I haven't tried to do the friendship bracelet yet. I save all these things in hopes someday I will. I thought it would be something easy & inexpensive to do.
I used to collect kits too before leaving Fl & giving away what I had left. Now I don't have room to hoard them nor the money to buy them. As you told me tho, I do have adhd with crafting Good intentions .. yep Randi, I sure have that too
