Default Rubberstamping on glass
Old 12-24-2002, 08:42 AM   #1 (permalink)

Hi, here's an idea I did last year for some easy but elegant looking little gifts & stocking stuffers.

I bought some of the small glass candleholders from Walmart, these were the cobalt blue and shaped like a brandy snifter. I used a white ink pad and stamps to scatter snowflakes on one side of it. Then used some gold embossing powder and heat embossed it. I continued this a bit at a time, letting the glass cool between times, as it gets extremely hot. They turned out beautifully, so I tried several more of the inexpensive glass items with great results.

I did try a glass ornament (Christmas type), but ended up smashing it by gripping to hard and trying to stamp it with out slipping on the glass. I decided they were too fragile for me to tackle.

Some tips I learned, clean the glass with alcohol to remove fingerprints first. If excess embossing powder sticks in places you dont want it, try brushing it off with a soft paintbrush. If you do emboss some tiny flecks you can carefully scrape it away with a razor blade or exacto knife.

Your candlesticks sound beautiful. I love embossing because you can use it on so many surfaces.

Helpful Hint: When I'm painting or stamping delicate items like glass balls or lightbulb ornaments, I either set them on a section of an old trusty egg carton or a napkin ring for support. Napkin rings are great for setting ornaments on to dry too.
