drilling holes in china plates

You have to by special drill bits. I have a set and I think they say for glass or china. My husband bought them for me. They have a very different look, to them. I haven't used them yet, so I can't tell how they work. I don't think they where very expensive. I believe he got them at the Home Depot.

Does any one know how to drill through china plates without breaking or cracking the plate? After drilling a hole through a china plate or cup and saucer, it is fastened with a screw to a post. This is stuck in the ground & makes a great bird feeder. I saw this at a craft show. In fact I bought one!

Okay, I'm not 100% positive on this, but I saw it on Home Matters, they were drilling some glass and they did it in a dishpan full of water on a piece of wood. They said that when drilling glass it can become hot and crack so if you do it underwater it will not crack.
