I cook the turkey, dressing, veggies, and dessert and take it all to my MIL's house. We all eat together there and then my side of the family eats on Sunday following Thanksgiving at my Mom's house.

This year I'll be at my daughters. I bring all the home made pies. If they ask for a certain pie ,it will be home made. So far the list is pumpkin, cherry, apple and mine is lemon.

My family comes here for 2:00pm dinner. I make the turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes. The rest is brought by the rest of the gang. There are usually 30 people here. We visit, eat, and visit again.

I used to cook and invite everyone in my family for Thanksgiving but the last time I did, _nobody helped me clean up the kitchen. They all went right to the den and watched TV and visited. Its no fun being in the kitchen cleaning up all by yourself. Then comes the dessert time and then I had to clean that mess up. So I said that I am getting too old for this (79). So now I go to my granddaughter's house for Thanksgiving.
My husband passed away about 4 months ago so it won't be same without him this year.

This year my fiance will be helping me cook dinner. His sisters will be here for a few days over the holiday so it'll be so much fun. It'll be my first year in 10 to host the holiday again. I sure did miss it. We'll make the dinner but they're bringing the homemade pumpkin pie.

We usually go to my MIL's house and have dinner with Hubby's family. (grr grr grumble grumble) I hate it. She used to be a good cook, but not anymore. It's icky. I just don't have a good time either. SIL I get along with the best (we grew up together) usually falls asleep along with MIL and S-FIL. Oh I could go on and on..............

BUT I won't.

I would soooooooooo love to just have my DH and my boys at home and no one else. Or maybe go away somewhere.............. A private cabin or vacation house and have dinner by ourselves. Maybe we'll do that!!! Oh yeah....... sure........... I'd never hear the end of it. :shake:

Holidays are fun.............. Holidays are fun...................... Holidays are fun......................:(

Default Thanksgiving Turkey cooked in a brown paper bag
Old 11-09-2007, 09:26 PM   #10 (permalink)

Each year I take a butterball turkey, stuff it and put it inside a brown paper grocery bag, then place it inside a big roasting pan. Fold the edges of the bag down into the pan, stick it in the oven and forget about it for the next 4 to 5 hours. I don't need a carving knife to cut the turkey when it's done. The meat will fall off the bone! The bag doesn't burn because of all the juice from the turkey. The top of the bag will be crisp but just pull it off and throw it away. It works everytime.
