| You sit at home & watch TV
And sip a glass of cold ice tea.
The news comes on & then you hear,
The All-Star Game is drawing near.
And next they show a far-off land,
Where men are dying in the sand.
A frown appears on your face,
You're tired of hearing about that place.
It's great to be alive & free,
Forget the guy across the sea....
...BUT... he's gone off to wage a war,
To keep the fighting from YOUR front door.
This fellow faces death each day,
Yet always has something light to say.
He walks all day, stands watch all night,
He's tired & sick but has to fight.
He dreams of a great big juicy steak,
Then someone yells, "There's a hill to take!"
The days are hot, the nights are too,
What wonders a letter from home would do.
Yet he asks nothing in return,
So kids can stay in school & learn,
He wears the clothes of tan & green,
He's called the world's best war machine.
Some will be heroes because they're brave,
Others will earn a wreath-laid grave.
Do you appreciate what he'll do,
Like giving up his life for you?
