gingerbread house Q's

Hi Christmas crafters! New girl on the block, love this website and trying to get to know the regulars! Needed a few pointers for making a gingerbread house if anyone has any to share. I am going to make one with my 3 children and my neice and nephew as well. I thought about doing a practice first since I have never attempted this before. I am a heavy crafter and have a creative mind, so I am feeling cofident! Thanks/kickassmom:p

Hi there and welcome. I go and buy the houses at the Craft store . They also sell them in some grocery stores. Everything is included in the package. After you whip up the icing to put the house togther use soup cans to hold them together and up right. When dry take out the cans. Do this before the kids come around. Let them do the decorating. You'll be amazed how clever the kids are. I buy extra candy for decorating, half goes in the mouth. So play it safe so you'll have enough. The Icing drys fast so you have to keep a damp cloth over the bowl. Also on the bag.

I use to make a gingerbread church, horse sleigh and trees of different sizes. I still have the patterns somewhere in this house, got them from a Woman's Day Magazine many years ago. I used melted sugar for the glue. New Years Day my four little ones got to break it up and eat it. Great memories.
