Default Boiling Bones
Old 11-27-2008, 05:06 PM   #1 (permalink)

This isn't really a recipe, but wondering if anyone else boils the turkey carcas to make soup? I've got mine on now. It makes a very rich broth and the little bits of meat left on the bones fall off into the broth as it cooks. Makes wonderful soup, pot pie, etc. Nothing goes to waste at my house.

Anyone else boil their turkey bones? Anyone have any great ideas for what to do with the broth? Any new turkey soup recipes?

We always use the bones for soup. Yummy!!! I put some of the gravy and a little dressing in there also.

Yes it makes a wonderful broth, I also boil my chicken bones. I usually freeze the unused broth so I have it on hand for gravies when I don't have any base for it, soaps, etc. I love turkey veggie rice soup it is great. I also use broth to cook rice sometimes when I want a little extra flavor. I also sometimes save my water from when I am boiling potatoes I use it for soup base especially when making cream of potato soup or a chowder such as ham and cheddar soup. I usually freeze mine in the small margerine containers which I always seem to have. It holds just enough broth for us.

Smiles n hugs
Leah

I usually make soup the day after Thanksgiving, but this year I decided to wait. I put it in the freezer in two batches -- one for soup and one for pot pie. We left a lot of meat on the bones this year so it is really meaty. I will probably make soup next week. I tried a new dressing recipe that I made gluten free that dh really liked so he is still eating that for now.

we always pull off all the meat then boil (that way the meat doesn't get all stringie lol) We make a huge pot of soup and freeze in portions. If I have the time I also freeze stock in ice cube trays for anything that may call for stock.
