Play Snow for Crafting

This project would be fun for groups to create their own snow pictures. Provide construction paper, beads, and scissors for the crafting part of the project.

Note: As in all recipes, results can vary depending on humidity, conditions, etc. Please try any recipe out before attempting in a group setting.

This project is rated EASY to do.

What You Need

Ivory Snow (powder form)

Water

Electric mixer

Mixing bowl

Cardboard

Miscellaneous supplies as desired to decorate picture

How To Make It

Mix the above ingredients on high with an electric mixer.

Mix well until it is thick enough that when the mixer is lifted from the ingredients it looks like meringue.

See the tips area for ideas on way to use your snow!

Tips

This project was submitted by a reader to DLTK's Crafts for Kids. The reader writes: My kids spread it on cardboard and cut out pictures of people and animals to decorate the picture. My daughter cut out penguins and made an igloo and put it on the bottom. When it dries it looks like snow. Also some of the kids dabbed their finger in it and put it on the cardboard to make it look like snow was falling down.

Enjoy creating!

I have used drywall spackle for decorative snow. It works well. It doesn't have the dimension of the decorative snow, but you can shape it as you apply.

I would bet you could make something similar to what you buy by mixing tacky glue, crystal glitter and those styrofoam pellets used to fill bean bags. There's really not much to it once you inspect it closely. The things people create and get rich from!
