Good morning,
I bought a few patterns of misses size small lounging
pants or p.j. pants. I do not understand the tissue paper
instructions. As you can tell, I am a pretty much called newbie.
So far, I have made pocketbooks, totebags, and large Christmas trees that you stitch up and stuff. They came out so
pretty that I am going to give some out as Christmas presents.
The problem I am having is I make my patterns on freezer paper and I never had to work with all the symbols on the tissue paper. What I am trying to say, does anyone know what measurements I should use for misses size small. I have 3 daughters who saw the patterns I bought and begged me to make them some. I don't want to tell them I don't know how.
They even told me they would pay for everything, even my time. I would NEVER charge anyone for making them something. Maybe, if I get good at it, I could make them for my grandchildren and maybe their hubbies, lol, lol.
I have also been all over the internet and don't understand anything. Everybody I talk to, say OMG they are so easy. Well if you don't understand, then you feel like an idiot.
Please, could someone help me. Thank you, Twizzels
well i will try to help as much as i can first you have to cut out ur pieces there are usually 3 or so sz per pattern.... cut out about a quarter to half in around farthest line i like to give myself room .. some like to cut close it is ur pereference there
there is usually a line that says to put on fold of the material that is for when you lay them out in your material you are using .. there are sone triangles that are along the outer of your pattern you will need those so you know where to match up say your front to backs or top to sleves ... so make sure to cut them out so you have them on your pattern and material..... if you look at you instructions they usually have some pics of the best way to lay out your pc on the material ...
i hope i have helped a little if you have more??? plz pm me i will try my best to help i am not a pro but my gma has taught me alot and i can always go ask her too for help if i dont know
Hi mopzsix,
I was so excited to see your reply. Thank you so much. I am handicapped and I don't get out as much as I would like too. My hubby is always trying to find things for me to do. So he bought me a sewing machine, I told him I would have liked mail strippers instead, lol. I thought that was pretty funny but, hubby didn't. I guess some men don't have good personalities.
Well, getting back to sewing. I just took out the tissue paper and the size small has long slotted lines, so do I cut there? As far as the notches, I cut into the lines of it and all the other ones also the notches that have 2 together, do the same? What about the small circles and the big circle with the plus sign through it and it says waistline. What about the circle with the hole in it? The line with arrow is the grainline so that means where the arrow points thats where you put the pattern on material. There are only 2 pattern pieces. I don't see anything about the fold or how many pieces of material to go through?
I am sorry for driving you crazy. I am just excited about learning something else. All my daughters will be happy too. By the way, my name is Lori

Hi Debbie,
I am sorry about all the questions. Please forgive me.
I have been handicapped for the last 9 years. I do not have any cartlidge
in either one of my knees and 50% bone loss in my spine. This Friday, will be 2 weeks that I had my veins in my legs removed because they were all tangled. I have to wear compression stockings for 4 more days. They are a pain to put on. I have no biological family, 4 of them died from massive heartattacks. By the time I turned 47 they had all passed away. I have been to 5 different doctors for knee replacements and they read my history and say I am sorry but I can't touch you. My hubby wants me to go to someone else but, who knows if 5 doctors said no, this doctor could be a quack. I did have the 10 injections in both the knees. I had to go back every week until all the shots were finished. I have bone on bone. the doctor said the injections were going to put cushioning in, what a freaken joke.
As far as the bone loss in my spine, they put me on Evista to try to stop the bone loss.
I have been Bi Polar for 21 years and very bad asthma. I am 53 years old and I feel like I am 90. Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful person. I am glad you have her.
I had to put my 21 year old cat to sleep. Hubby helped me get there and I wanted to push the cat out of the way so I would get it.
Please, don't think I am a marter. I just find it very confusing. When an animal is in pain, they put it to sleep, when a human being is in pain they let them stay that way, I do not understand that.
As far as the pattern goes, I don't want you to go crazy with all my questions.
Take care, STAY HEALTHY
Hi Lori. It's great to see that you're starting a project. In your pattern, you should find a place where it gives general directions. Laying a pattern out for the first time can seem intimidating. Basics- Always cut the notches outward and they are important for matching the fronts to each other and the backs to each other. Always pay attention to the up/down arrow because it's important based on the material you use. For instance, corduroy should have lines up and down and not side to side. The same goes for if you use material with images like little frogs. You need to make sure the frogs are seen properly when sewn together and don't run upside down. Slotted lines generally show the seam allowance and little dots by a waist usually are for leaving an opening below to insert elastic. Dots by a crotch area usually get reinforced. As you work on your project and follow the directions one step at a time, they'll make more sense. Best of luck.

Hi Teresa, Thanks for replying. I am trying so hard to understand.
My hubby went to the store and he bought me a book about sewing.
It's called THE COMPLETE PHOTO GUIDE TO SEWING. I have been skimming through it and it shows a lot of details and information and photos.
I saw a DVD on Hip Line Media.com on pajamas, so hubby said he would order it on line. It's $25.00, but hubby said if it works than it was money well spent. We will see how it goes. I will post a reply on Crafters Community to let everyone know how I made out.
Thank you so much for the advice. Take care, STAY HEALTHY, Lori
