Hi Susie,
Thank you for the information. This is one craft I thought I would never get into, but I have been seeing such really cute patterns so my hubby decided to buy me a machine. He wanted to get it right away, but he had to order it online from Joannes fabric, so it will take a little bit before I get it. I am excited for it to get here. Take care,,, Lori
Hey, Lori
You are welcome. I really hope you will enjoy your new machine. Give me a shout should you need any help or clarification when you start experimenting!
Hi Susie,
I really appreciate the support I will be getting. Thanks so much.
I can't wait until I recieve it. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, lol.
I can't wait to get the hang of it. There are so many really cute holiday patterns, especially Christmas and Easter. How do I get patterns of holiday items on the web?
Around here we have what we call night school, these are classes held at night at the local High school. You might have this in your area.
You should join a class for beginers as there is nothing like HANDS ON experience!! It shouldn't be a large cost and it will be very valuable for you!! They will start out with the basics and work up to a piece of simple clothing!!
I took sewing all though High school and when in the working force I made a lot of my clothes specialy skirts!! I had dozens of them as they where so simple!! I also bought a lot of my fabric at WW in the cheap bin!! Very good fabric, but in limited amounts, so make sure you buy at least 3 yrds when you don't have a project in mind as, this will become a fact for you!! Oh I love that fabric, I just have to have it!!! You will have piles and piles!!LOL
The girsl have given you lots of great advise!! I think the best is the scissors, if you can afford a good pair buy them and mark them as fabric only!! A small pair for cliping threads is wise too!!
Have a great time with this, as it will stay with you forever!!!
Wow, what a small world, Lori! Of course, I know West Haven. It's a nice area about an hour to an hour and a half from me. We recently visited New Haven looking at colleges with our son. My DH and I are alumnis of SCSU so we are somewhat familiar with New Haven. Boy has the area changed from the way we remembered it. My son wanted to check out Yale and then we went to Hamden to visit Quinnipiac.
How funny is that?!
Have a nice evening.

Hi Patricia,
Thank you so much for giving me the advice. The scissors I bought are a heavy pair of scissors with orange handles made by fiskars. They were a lot of money but, I figure if I want to do it, I want to do it correct. I was wondering what is a good thread to use? How is coats and clark or Talon?
Have a great day, Lori
Hi Teresa, what a small world. Unfortunately, New haven is not like it used to be. My hubby told me if he ever found out if I went there he would take away my drivers license. I could remeber my mother and I used to go there all day and shop until we dropped, lol. It was so nice being together. We would have lunch there.
My daughters are all married, but I am telling you, if they had gotten excepted to go to Yale, I would wrip it to shreds. No way in hell would I let my family go to New Haven. You take your hands in your life when you go there.
Take care and take my advise, ask other people what they think about New Haven. Have a great day,,,, Lori
Fiskers are one of the best scissors to have!! I them in all forms!!
My hubby set up a sew area in our basement and I have only been down once this year!!Ugh!! But everything is at my figure tips if need be!!
Thread is up to you!! Try them all, as you make a project buy a different type each time.
I have 3 different machines in my sewing area, I also have a couple antique machines too, one was my Grandmothers, she would be over 100 if she was still with us!! I also bought an old machine a couple summers ago and took it up to our camp and have done much sewing up there. I have done slip covers for my out door furniture, curtains for my DIL for their trailer and many many repairs on the Grandkids clothing!!LOL
