Default My first experience
Old 01-13-2009, 01:54 AM   #1 (permalink)

For Christmas my daughter gave me a voucher for a scapbooking class (which I thought was quite cool). So off I went on the 7th of January all excited.... It was a disaster! I love any paper craft and I should have enjoyed the class. But I did not like anything about it - only because of the attitute of the woman who presented the class. I did not know ANYTHING about scrapbooking and she would use terms which I did not understand. In the end the project did not turn out too bad (a little off centre) but I was so disappointed that I decided never to go back there again. But I would certainly like to learn all there ir to learn about this artform..... Have you ever had such an experience?

I am so sorry to hear about your bad experience. Some people are just not cut out to be teachers. Was this a class for beginners? If not, she may have geared the lesson for seasoned scrapbookers.

Awwww, what a bummer!!! I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Sometimes people in the teaching/instructing position forget that newcommers may not know the jargon and concepts and all they do is confuse us. I have been in your type of class and was made to feel that I was holding up the class etc by asking what others thought were silly questions. I have also taught many classes on various things and try hard to remember that everyone does not understand it all, that is why they are there. Depending on the subject, I have handed out a basic vocabulary sheet of the jargon so participants have a reference to look to in case I fall into that jargon trap. And it is a handout and you know how we all love handouts, lol. Maybe you could do a little research and make one for yourself and give it another try, maybe at a different place. Then if you dont know something you have a reference to look at. I wish you good luck and keep on going, it may be something you truly love and it would be a great loss not to persue it.

Well, I did decide to give it another go..... As I said, I like any papercraft but this just did not tickle my fancy (the way the class was presented). I will find another class nearby and atleast now I know what sanding and chalking means - hehehehehe.
