Default To quilt or not to quilt.....
Old 07-06-2008, 01:45 AM   #1 (permalink)

May I pose a question, to those of us crafty enough to be here given the expanse of things to do when on-line. I sew, I quilt and I applique, am I among a small group?

Ok so I have a few questions :) What do we like to sew? What scope of projects catch our attention, done in a day, week or in a year for example. I like what I like and will sew as I choose I am just curious who and where are those like me.

Thanks for your thoughts and input, Darcy

I cannot sew. The extent of my expertise is making pillows.

If you go to the top of this page, click on quick links and then click on social groups, you will find a list of different groups. There is one for sewing. Check it out.

Well, today will be a small project. I'm going to sewing new valances for my bedroom windows. Just repainted the room blue and cream for the moulding and doors. Love to make hats, ponchos, hooded pullovers using fleece. Favorite is sewing Halloween costumes. Too many projects to list.
Have a perfect day.

Darcy -- You are not alone. Most of my sewing project these days are clothing. I make my husbands shirts and am currently making myself a few blouses. I just finished a winter coat. It had been awhile since I had tackled anything that ambitous and am quite proud that it turned out to be something I can actually wear. I also do smaller projects like home dec stuff, shopping bags, purses, etc.

Quilting -- I don't do much traditional quilting anymore, but I do love fabric art (original wall hangings).

Hi Darcy,

I dabble in many crafts but by no means am I a master of any of them. I make mostly for friends and family. I rarely sell any of my things. I sew but it's usually my own patterns because I never did learn how to lay out a pattern. I make quilts, totebags, organizers and the list goes on. I X-stitch, play with wood and power tools, I love my glue gun, I just recently started in making ATCs and love that craft. There's just so much that I like to do. My own self, I would try to make it before I would buy it.

Darcy,
I like to quilt, sew, and several other crafts. I will try different things but still the love of quilting is just what I do...I do just small ones for now and use the tie method, no place for a frame for now...Wanting to get the commercial quilting frame but if you have checked they are expensive. I work full time so evenings, weekends or my time. In the winter at work when things are slow I do bring one in to tie and the boss has no problem with that....I have even cut pieces for new one....I used to use the scrap fabric from my daughters school clothes to make the quilts and now they are grown so have to just check out garage sales and resale shops for the material...Our Wal-Mart doesn't have fabric and its an hour drive to the nearest fabric store....so you are not alone with the quilting, its not a lost art as of now....
Priscilla

When my daughter was young I made a great amount of her clothes. It was a lot of fun and she loved it. Now I sew quilts and odds and ends. Sewing is something every woman should know in my opinion. Even guys should know the basics it is something you can do without depending on someone else to repair things.

I am a sewer. Since having my dd last year, I haven't had that much time to devote to anything. I've only recently gotten to go back in my craft room, then I couldn't find anything and ended up totally reorganizing it. Now, I'm just looking for the energy to start sewing again.
If you're looking for other quilters or advise for sewing, check out Quilting Board - The Quilter's Message Board. It's just a big forum, with quilters/sewers who range from very new to those that have many years experience. They can usually help when your stumped or for whatever.
