Default Learning to Quilt
Old 09-21-2007, 03:51 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi there...

My goal over the next year or so is to learn how to quilt. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for my first pattern, or any tips on how to get started. I'd also love to see photos of first quilts, if you have them. This community is such a wealth of information, I thought you all might give me some great pointers.

I'd appreciate it!

Thanks -

Hi and welcome to the community! :) I think the easiest pattern to quilt is the 9 patch. It's a simple set of 9 squares, 5 of one color, 4 of a coordinating color. Here's a template for a 9 patch block.

When you get all your blocks made and set together you just quilt in straight lines. If you have anymore questions, just ask. I hope I've explained it well enough.

I do a little quilting and strip quilting helped me for time lines. If you need to know how to do this I would be happy to tell you. Maybe you already know. This is helpful for the 9 patch also.
