Default photo ink jet transfer
Old 02-18-2007, 08:54 AM   #1 (permalink)

In 2003 I bought ink jet transfer paper to put photos onto muslin fabrics to put into future quilts. In 2006 I tried using the same paper and apparently it doesn't peel off as well as it used to after ironing the photo onto fabric. I got so frustrated & decided the paper must have turned bad. I found out you can print directly onto muslin fabric by ironing freezer paper onto the back of the fabic - just cut it the same size of regular paper 8.5 inches by 11 inches. But there were alot of times the edge of the fabric would fray and get caught in the printer causing it to jam. Now I heard there's a new liquid called Bubble Jet Rinse (Joanns.com ) that you soak the fabric then let dry then iron the freezer paper on the back then insert it into the printer. The solution is suppose to adhere the ink to the fabric so it doesn't wash out which is necessary in quilting. Has anyone used this Bubble Jet Rinse & has it washed off or made any photos bleed? Thanks for your advice

After trying out the Buble Jet 2000 & Rinse I was not happy with the product. It is very time consuming soaking all of the fabric then waiting to dry. It did not mention what ink to use - inkjet or laser. I tried the laser and after doing the procedure most of the ink washed out! I felt it was a waste of time and decided to go back to buying Avery Ink Jet T-Shirt Transfers. I would still print directly onto the muslin fabric using the ink jet instead of the laser ink. The pigment in the ink seems to adhere and not wash out.

I've done subtle images onto muslin material fusing Heat bond lite for sewing to it. It never gets stuck in my printer. The images aren't very dark, though. When done, you peel the back off and iron the piece to another piece of material.
