| I too, have begun collecting Crown Royal bags. I have about 20-30 of them so far. I have spent hours on the internet and emailing people on the internet with questions and have never found any answers.
I recently just tossed several of them into my washing machine and set the darn thing to delicate and mini load. They came out of the washer just fine. I also tossed them into the dryer on "no heat" to get any wrinkles out then air dryed them. I didn't put anything special into the washer except laundry soap (cheap one at that).
I then tried to take the darn thing apart. It is definitely one of those television watching projects! I could never find a single thread to pull to release the stitches so it was slow going. Do not try to "rip" them apart, the fabric just tears. Yes, I tried!
I went to the quilt show in Sisters, Oregon this summer and saw two quilts there. One was just blue jean squares that someone had cut, then sewed the bags directly onto them so they were like pockets. I wasn't particulary impressed with this option. The second quilt I saw was made with the bags and purple flannel (closely matched). It seemed to me that they cut approximately 4.5" squares with the logo in the middle. Each row was a CR square, flannel square, CR square, flannel square, etc. They used the sides of the bags to make a sashing to use between each row. I have a picture of each quilt in my files if you want to see them. Send me an email address.
I have also seen one made with a star block. The center square of the block was the logo and the points of the star were the remainder of the bag. The rest of the square was made from a gold fabric that closely matched the thread on the bag. This is the idea I want to try.
Good luck with your project. And if you have any tips that you learned along the way I would really appreciate hearing about them. |
