Default Question about Quilting
Old 01-20-2005, 02:12 AM   #1 (permalink)

Ok, since I finally got my sewing maching I am learning how to use it! I haven't really used one since I was in 4H and like 8 years old. LOL, I did get first place for the outfit I made! Anyways onto my question....I am interested in quilting, and was wondering what is the best kind of quilt to start out with? I have been reading about quilting lately trying to learn about it before I jump into it, but I kind of get over excited about something and just jump into it without knowing how to do it properly. I am kind of worried that if I don't start out with something fairly easy that I will get frustrated and just give up on it. Quilting seems so scary when you don't know hardly anything about it.

Would a basic block, baby crib size be simple? Or should I start off with something smaller until I get the hang of it?

i would suggest a 9 patch. using 2 or 3 colors. you can start with a pot holder and work up. have you checked with your local quilt shop, they are very helpful and usually offer basic classes. if you know someone who does quilt ask for help. there are several forums with patterns, cow cauch is really good. (not spelled right) some one will correct me. good luck once you start you'll love it
