Well, the day I have dreaded has arrived. I took Killer to have him neutered on Friday. The vet called a couple hours later and asked us to come in and talk. She would not do the neutering because his blood work was really bad. She ran a bile acid test and his was 130 and it is supposed to be like 15. I took him to the vet specialist yesterday, they did an ultra sound. Even though outwardly he appears healthy he has a lot of the classic symptoms for liver shunt incuding stones in his bladder. The specialist said a liver shunt may be medically managed but he would probably only live for about 5 years and would most likely develop other problems because his liver is not functioning properly. He goes in for surgery Friday. For those of you who followed my posts about this before my hubby and I are not going into this blind. We chose to keep him and love him with no regrets and knowing what could happen. We have decided to use our savings to pay for the surgery and that is ok. We would do no less for our other loved ones. Most of our family and all of our friends think we are seriously nuts but thats okay too, let them think what they like. Killer will have to be on a special diet for a while and some anti biotics but Dr. Hamm says that if the surgery goes well Killer will be good as new in just a few months. I guess my only regret in this whole thing is that my little sweetie has to go through it. If I could do it for him I surely would. So my request is this, please pray that God watches over our little guy and takes care of him in a way that is best for him (not us). We do love him so. I appreciate your prayers and good thoughts.
Thank you so very much, I love and appreciate you all.
Andrea
Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday night. That was really cool.
isappb, Please know that I am praying for you and Killer. I was idle when the first post came out and I have read up on your post. Hang in there, we are with you.
Oh my Andrea. I'm so sorry for your little Killer to have to go thru this mess. I wasn't around but have read the posts & caught up on your situation. I know how you feel tho. I spent over $5OO. on my cats surgery when she swallowed some yarn. We do what we have to do for our "kids". Prayers & hugs from NC for the three of you.
