Apple thank you for reminding me to look on here. We are feeding Grace and five Kits, Emma has three, looking at pics from 2 years ago we discovered Emma was one of Grace's from 2006. Bandit the little thief who stole a slipper off my foot this year and last has kits as well but we are not sure how many.

I have a couple of pics but don't know how to post them. Not been very well, reason for not being around much. Al does most of the feeding at the moment, but I usually manage to make it to the kitchen and watch. The babies are so cute.

Al though has a job trying to stop the little ones getting into the kitchen. There are 2 little ones who stand up at the back door and when I put my hand on the glass the paws come up and try to touch me.

Skunks are also out and they look for food here as does another stray cat ,I really don't want us to have any more strays but Al gets so sorry to see them starving.

Sounds like you have your summer entertainment in your own back yard! Still hoping to see some pics. (hint, hint). Racoons can be annoying rascals but I have to admit they are pretty cute! Where I live we have racoons but don't see them very often. Also have skunks, porcupines, coyotes, red fox and deer.

Well I Am Sure Now That It Was A Raccoon That Ripped The Trim Strip Off Our Porch Trying To Get In .they Must Have Smelled The Fish I Had Fried That Night. I Put Out Cat Kibbles, Couple Doggie Bicuits And A P And J Sandwich. It Was All Gone This Morning. Rich Usually Sees It At 6 Am. But For The Last Two Days Nothing. Jean How Did You Tame Them To Come To You? If She Hears A Noise She Runs With The Babies. I Have My Camera Ready For A Pic So I Will Keep Trying.

Good morning, question; how did I tame them.? Not sure, but it did start with Grace, who by the way is the mama raccoon on my avitar, with three kits last year. She was and still is the most gentle animal and trusts us so much. Her kits follow her example,
Last night it was pretty roudy on the deck and Al took a bowl of water and threw it over Bandit who was attacking Grace's kits and got Grace as well by surprise.

There was more than enough food for all of them but Bandit is just what her name suggests,

I talk to Grace and the kits very quietly and they seem to understand what I am saying.
Grace was here on here own a couple of weeks ago and standing with her paws on the back door, early in the day so she had plenty of space. I saw her and said "are you looking for a treat" She started licking her lips and actually drooling.

Al came in and we both started laughing. So I got her a sweet cookie which she very gently took from my hand, ate it then I said to her, Grace go home to your Kits and she walked away and we did not see her until later at night with the babies.

I think she is very smart and very special.

Now I am tired just writing this one letter. Have a good day everyone.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW WHAT A NICE STORY. I REALLY THINK ANIMALS KNOW WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT THEM. I TALK SOFTLY TO A BUNNY WHO HAS LIVED UNDER MY DECK FOR 3 YEARS. IT IS VERY SMALL AND I THINK IT IS A FEMALE. SHE NEVER RUNS FROM ME BUT WHEN MY RICH COMES OUT SHE IS GONE. RICH SAYS OUR PLACE HAS BECOME A ZOO INSIDE AND OUT. HE KNOWS WHEN HE CAN'T FIND ME I AM USUALLY SITTING ON THE DECK STEPS FEEDING SOME CRITTER. MY KIDS CALL ME AN ANIMAL WHISPERER BECAUSE THEY CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE TAMED SKUNKS ETC. IF YOU LET THEM KNOW YOU MEAN NO HARM THEY BEGIN TO TRUST YOU. I LOVE SUMMER SO MUCH BECAUSE I CAN SIT OUT THERE AND WATCH ALL THE CRITTERS IN MY YARD. I NOW HAVE BIRDS SWOOPING DOWN ON ME BECAUSE THEY THINK I AM FILLING THE FEEDERS. I WENT NOSE TO BEAK WITH A HUMMINGBIRD ON THE DECK THIS WEEK. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS CHECKING ME OUT OR THOUGHT I WAS TOO CLOSE TO ITS FEEDER.

Ahhh that is so nice to have them coming to the house with the babies. I sure do miss my gang. Since moving to town we haven't seen one. At the farm I had four that came and ate with our outside cats. The would come running when I called to feed the cats. They would get in line at the bowls and not fight. The cats didn't mind them there and they all got a long.

My girls just loved watching them eat with the cats, they thought it was too funny. They are so fun to watch with those tiny finger like paws.

They use to come to the front door and scratch for their food as well, it would scare the willies out of me the first couple of times, then we just got use to it. They would come at the same time every night. We fed them mostly cat food and every now and then a treat of peanut butter.

Smiles n hugs
Leah

Well This One Likes The Jelly But Not The Peanut Butter. They Licked The Jelly Off The Bread And Left The Peanut Butter Bread There So Last Night I Just Made Jelly Bread And It Was All Gone, Plus Some Cat Kibbles And Doggie Biscuits.
