| I have a 8 or 9 week old Sheltie puppy. He is absolutely gorgeous! Today I noticed he has a runny nose. He had some mucous on his back. My GD noticed earlier that it was all over the chair she was in.
I don't know a thing about puppies. Is this something I should be concerned about. He is still running around like crazy, getting into trouble. He doesn't look sick at all.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this. We do have an appt. for Thursday at the Vet's.
Thanks for any help! | | | | | Moderator Level up: 20%, 110 Points needed |

| If you Google puppy with runny nose something is bound to come up. A friend of mine's son has a puppy who was exposed to parvo and they are keeping him quarantined for 2 weeks. He has the puppy shots but they are still being careful with him. | | | | | Senior Member Level up: 38%, 44 Points needed |

| I'm sorry your puppy is not feeling well. I can relate. Shelties are so beautiful, my daughter has one. Will keep your puppy in my prayers. | | | | | Moderator Points: 28,200, Level: 73 | Level up: 74%, 350 Points needed |

| I Agree With Musad Because The First Thing That Came To My Mind Was Parvo Too. It Can Be Fatal. I Would Get The Dog To A Vet To Be Sure. It Is Just Something That Puppies Get. They Always Innoculate Puppies Against This. It Is Highly Contagious And Can Make A Dog Very, Very Sick. Let Us Know How It Does. | | | | | Senior Member Level up: 20%, 179 Points needed |

| Hello Shirley;
Sorry to hear about your puppy! Shelties are indeed gorgeous!! Just to put my 2 cents in....it is not likely that your puppy has parvo since it usually drops them in their tracts. I had a shepard pup that contacted it and the result was almost instantaneous for frolicking puppy to lethargic, sleepy pup. Dogs do get colds and it is entirely possible this is his problem but it is good that you have a vet's apptmt to double check on him. Good luck! | | | | | Member Level up: 10%, 59 Points needed |

| New puppy, new environment; maybe he's just is a bit allergic to something. It would seem that you would notice a bit more sleeping, less eating or some other change if your little guy was badly sick.
Will be keeping fingers crossed that's all it is. | | | | | Moderator Points: 10,097, Level: 43 | Level up: 44%, 303 Points needed |

| I'd just keep an eye on him since you have an appt already this week. If he gets worse then I'd go sooner.
I also have 2 shelties - mine are 3 and 11 yrs old. (Sadie and Chelsey). They are wonderful dogs. | | | | | Moderator Level up: 38%, 101 Points needed |

| Thank you all for all of your help. He seems to be ok now. His nose problem has cleared up and is running around like crazy. I'll let you know about his vet appt.

| Took Buddy to the vet today. He said that he is in that stage where the antibodies from mom are disappearing and his own have not really kicked in. It was a small infection in his nasal passages. He is a perfectly healthy puppy. | | | | | Senior Member Level up: 20%, 179 Points needed |
