I felt I should share our story with all of you. We had a lovely 14month old Boston Terrier, named Missi. She was just wonderful, and we had thought about getting another, as we had 2 Bostons' together at another time in our lives. Our daughter let us know about a website with "Bostons on it". It was BTCC a rescue site for abused dogs. Weren't we overjoyed to be accepted as adoptive parents to a Boston. We visited "Bobby G." at his foster home and were immediately in love with him. After our home visit and the fact that they made sure we were the right home, we brought him into our lives in July, 07. Bobby had been a stud in a puppy mill in Penn. only grabbed by the scruff whenever his "service" was required and then thrown back into a pen. He had never even felt grass beneath his feet and he was 5 years old! He was a skinny, cowering scared little individual when he was rescued. The foster persons use their own funds to assist these poor dogs and have even saved some from the streets. They do some fundraising to help cover some costs. If you would like to help them, you can do so at www.BTCCsite.com Since joining our family, Bobby has blossomed into a loveable, happy, proud little guy who we just adore. He even found out that life can be fun.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww..we Had A Puppy Mill Closed Down Here In Pa. All The Dogs Were Adopted. They Had Never Seen The Light Of Day But Were Kept In A Closed Up Barn. It Made Me Cry. If You Can't Post The Pic..send It To Cupcake And She Will Do It For You.
I really wish that people would investigate where they get thier animals from before buying pure breds! If they did, the puppy mills would have to shut down because no one would want thier animals! I always find it amazing when I see people advertising litters of pure breds ready to go... most reputable breeders have waiting lists sometimes 2 - 3 years ahead depending on the breed
I think this was a good post! There are rescue missions for most breeds, so if you have a breed that you really want you may want to investigate if a rescue is a good option for your family!
On This Same Note, When I Was Looking For A New Siamese, I Came Across Many Shelters Just For Siamese. There Are Thousands Of Rescued Siamese. It Broke My Heart. They Are Wonderful ,loving, Intelligent Cats.,but They "talk" All Day. Once People Get Them Home And Find Out, They Don't Want Them Anymore. Always Check Out The Personality Trait Of The Animal You Are Going To Purchase And See If It Is Suitable For Your Lifestyle. For Example A Jack Russell Which Is A High Strung Dog Would Not Be Good In An Apartment Or For Someone Who Works All Day.
LEAVE ROOM IN YOUR GARDEN FOR THE ANGELS TO DANCE.
I agree with you both so much. How anyone can abuse any animal is beyond my thoughts. Apparently the persons who had this particular puppy mill were told they could make more money raising dogs than large animals such as cattle. Our adoptee was a little cool with myself & other women at first, because it had been the women of the houses who "cared" for the dogs. If caring consists of grabbing them by their scruffs and starving them. He has come along so well, we just love him.
Do not overlook the older dogs. We got a 10 yr old Lab in March from our shelter. She is a sweetheart. The older dogs are "what you see is what you get". Belle has been a wonderful addition to our household and my grandson claims her as "his" dog.
