grooming collies

I have rescued 3 rough coat collies and I was wondering does and one have any hints on what to use to soften their hair talk about a bad hair day [img]images/smiley_icons/lol1.gif[/img] it is so brittle and fly away. I have bought a spray from the pet store but that doesn't seem to work and in 2 days they smell awful and the white on their coat has turned yellow. Any ideas would be appreciated. One more thing I also resuced a sheltie so I have 4 dogs to brush every other day to control the hair balls that run through the house.

I bath her in shampoo for dry skin because her skin gets real flaky.



They also make special pick-like brushes for these types of dogs because they have two sets of fur. One short one underneath and a longer one on top. That's the pretty stuff you see.



This pick will get in underneath the layers of fur and really give them an excellent combing.



It's hard to keep a dog real white but if you brush them regularly it should help to take some of the dirt from them so it's not as noticeable as soon.

I used to work at an animal hospital and have a lot of experience with dogs. I would recommend a couple of different things for your collies. They make a shampoo for white dogs. It is a bluing shampoo much like the stuff some people use in their white laundry. It is actually blue and you could use that just on their white areas. The other thing I would suggest you try is called "Show Sheen". It is actually a product for horses but it works great on dogs, too. It is a product that you put on their dry coat. It has some oils in it and gives them a great shine to their coat. Another thing you might consider getting is a shedding blade. This again, is a horse brush but it works great on dogs with thick undercoats. It really removes the dead hair. I hope some of these ideas help and I give you a lot of credit for adopting these dogs.
