Expensive to get healthy foods |

I am a diabetic, so food prep and food purchasing is a high priority in my life. I am also trying to lose that last 50 lbs of a 100 lb journey.
I have found in South Dakota, at least NE South Dakota, fresh produce is not plentiful nor cheap. I paid $2.79 for four tomatoes this last week....farmer's market price was over $3.00 per pound.
Our farmer's market has gone nuts with their prices, they know we want their fresh things, so they are taking advantage of the market. It's a lot of work, I am sure, I don't/can't garden....so I am willing to pay a little more but four tomatoes for $6.00, can't do it.
Yes, chips and snacks are spendy, but they fill the whole. I am doing a low carb diet, and as much as I hate it, with diabetes it fits the need. I hate the idea of not having as much fruit as I like, but that's life.
I don't know if it means we don't buy the stuff, or we learn to live with it. This summer, I had to admit that prices were never going to be as low as I was used to and I would have to get used to it....guess I did.
