I always start from seed. Here's what I do. For those who have kids/grandkids in elementary school... go eat lunch with them on a regular basis. Here's why. I collect milk cartons all year, until Spring. Then, I use the milk cartons to plant the seeds in. When the ground is warm, and the plants are pretty good sized, I cut the bottom of the carton in an X with a box knife, and put the whole box and all in the ground. The cartons are biodegradeable, make great individual seed starting containers, and best of all... they're free! It's also alot of fun seeing the enthusiasm on the kids' faces when you answer, "Why do you need my empty milk carton?"

Yeah, my front porch is covered with milk cartons. I have so many tomato plants started, I probly won't have enough room in my garden for them. I wonder if I put a sign on my mailbox, reckon I could sell the extras? LOL!
