| I have to share this beautiful cake stand that we used for my daughter's wedding a year and a half ago. After watching a Martha Stewart program about different ways to make and display wedding cakes, I wanted to obtain an old metal plant stand to paint white and use for the wedding cakes. Well, it was ten days from the wedding and still I couldn't find one. Located a couple of wood ones and they were too small and just wouldn't work. I was talking to a group of friends one night and was about to give up hope on the idea and just group the cakes on pillars of assorted heights on a table when a girlfriend of mine who is a welder said, "I know exactly what you want - will you give me a shot?" I told her to go for it. Since we live on a ranch and our daughter is a cowgirl she had a western theme for her wedding. So the 'welder' friend said all I needed to do was get her several small horse shoes and she would take care of the rest. We set up the hall for reception the night before and here my friend comes with the finished project. Isn't it just beautiful? If you've ever thought of learning to weld, here is your incentive!! They say women really do make better welders as they have more patience and pay more attention to detail. One more thing - my daughter now uses her 'cake stand' as a plant stand in front of her picture window and sometimes to display different holiday decorations and candles. A lot of possibities as well as a nice keepsake of her wedding!! |
