Default Rusted Tins
Old 06-23-2002, 04:56 PM   #1 (permalink)

Does anyone out there know the "receipe" to making rusted metal or tin? A friend of mine gave it to me a while back and now I can't find it anywhere.

All I can remember is something about vinegar and I think some kind of salt.

Any ideas?

To rust tin spray the metal with a mixture of vinegar, water, and a pinch of salt and let the tin dry outside overnight.

To obtain a rusted look on other surfaces other than metal I use a combination of brown, black, and some rust colored acrylic paint. I pounce the colors on with a scruffy brush or a sponge in an irregular pattern. If you want you can fleck that finish with black. Very effective and beats buying those specialty spray paints. I believe in using what you have on hand. The same combination can also give you the look of stone.
