Default Lanyards
Old 03-17-2009, 07:08 PM   #1 (permalink)

Relatively new here...
I have been making lanyards ie: badge holders for my FBI
daughter in law and other friends.
I have been making them on 1 mm. clear stretch cord
and have been running into a problem of the cord getting
"too" stretched out and loose. I think I may be pulling
it too tight when I start and attach the loop and crimp bead
and cover beads before I get to the split.
Has anyone else made these long lanyards? What type of cording do you use?
My major craft is winter dolls. I just recently got into the jewelry end. So far I just make earrings and these lanyards.

Try something like Tiger Tail wire. There are different brands of it. I can't remember what the WalMart brand is called but it's right next to the beads and I believe it's pink & white.

I have the same problem with that type of stretchy cord. Why are you making lanyards with stretchy cord? Standard lanyards are typically big enough to fit over the head with no problem. If you like stretchy then go with a cord that isn't thin plastic.

I have been making them with stretch cord because it was easier for the
girls to stretch out their badges to swipe at the doors. Almost all the doors
are coded in the builings in DC and they have to use their mag. badges to get in and out of different offices. I am also going to try to make them
as bracelets so they can wear them further up their arms and have them
handy. Another thing I came up with that a few of them have liked is making the bottom part of the lanyard and attaching it with an alligator
clip that they can clip on and off of their lapels.
Amazing what you can come up with to solve a problem! Stacy

Stacey why not try a heavier strech cord if it works best for this. You can get different gages of it. Micheals would be best, I would think. I have different thinknesses in my stash for different jewellery or bead types. Also you could double up the elastic too, if the beads will allow.
