Question Jewelry Tips Needed
Old 07-12-2008, 03:58 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi all, I am sort of new here. I have been on the boards once before but it has been a really long time. What do you all use for clasps on necklaces. I want to make a few ID holders out of beads, but am not sure if I should add a clasp or just thread it in a circle and secure it this way. The necklace/ ID holder would be quite long and could be slipped on and off over your head. Also what type of cording do you all use? I have craft wire and made a really pretty one but it was too stiff and can break if it is bent too many times in one place or twisted alot. I want something strong, yet flexible. Not too stiff, something that fits like a necklace. HELP!!!!!

I would use Tiger Tail (or similar) wire. It's for jewelry and it's flexible so it won't break.

I make my id badge necklaces big enough to fit over the head. Just secure the first end of the wire with a crimp bead on a key ring or hook for the badge then add beads and secure the other end on the same hook for your badge.

I use Beadalon, a coated metal wire, similar to the Tiger Tail that Leanna mentioned. As for clasps, I use all kinds on necklaces or bracelets, depending on the piece, but wouldn't use any on ID badge holders. Good Luck!

Hmmm!! I don't know how I missed this post, but I agree with the tiger tail or beadalong for the tag holder!!

No clasp is need on these, but your clip at the end for the tag to go on!!

I have made many of these and this is all I use!! Very easy to make!!

Hope you have gotten the info in time for what you need!!

Thanks Girls
