INTERNET AUCTIONSA Board to ask questions about how to start, how to get help, tips, how to show your items and where an available auction site can be found.
I like selling there. It's 20 cents to list. Your listing stays up for 4 months unless it sells first. When you do sell an item it only cost you 3.5% of the item total.
You can't have a banner in your shop directing people to another site, but many (including myself) have a web address written in my shop telling people that they can see more here etc... They especially frown upon linking to another site where you sell your stuff cheaper than what you sell it for on etsy.
It is a long process of getting your shop up, running and getting people to buy! That is unless you are a bath and body shop. They seem to do the best. Most new shops sell their first item around their 1 month anniversary. I have seen a few that started selling stuff on their first day, but not very many.
There is a lot of self promotion to do! They have business card exchanges, promo swaps and stuff that really help get your name out there! Posting in the forum there, listing new items at least once a week, but better if everyday gets you seen, also hearting people! Heart lots and lots of people. The more you heart the more people will click on your avitar to see who you are and will then look at your shop. Get a treasury list if you can. You are VERY lucky if you get one! A treasury is where you get to pick a list of items you like. It looks just like the front page, but with items you chose! And if your treasury gets picked to be on the actual front page you should go buy a lotto ticket!
They also have show case days available for $7 a day. It's paid advertising for your shop. They have banners on boing-boing and a few other sites that link directly to the show case. I have three days on the showcase this time around! My first day is tomorrow.
Picture quality is a big thing there. The better the picture the better the product will do and the more likely it will be picked for a treasury or the front page. (more free promotion for you!)
Another thing people like there are great descriptions. If I was a better writer I could write better descriptions, but mine aren't so great. I just give the basics.
If you need/want to know about anything else just let me know!
Oh! Tina is another good one to ask! Her shop is starting to pick up!
I just start selling on there again after being off a while. I listed items and within a hour or so sold my first one. I have only sold one other thing since opening my store in July or something like that. I haven't spent a lot of time with it. After I am done this show this weekend I plan on spending more time on it and promoting myself and others with favorites.
I really like the site and how it is set up. Nice and easy and straight forward for listings.
Leanna said it all and the best. I am really enjoying the site and some nights spend a lot of hours just looking through the site.
Hi!
I have been with Etsy since June 2007, I sold 5 items, it has sooooo many stores, it's is hard to imagine making any money there. I just want to be able to cover the costs of my crafting supplies now. They are are very good group to be with though. Visit my store if you have time!! Thanks, Jeanne
