Default DAY29: Natural Disaster on the way~
Old 01-31-2007, 07:01 PM   #1 (permalink)

I touched on this topic last year~and I pray that noone ever has to go thru anything like a fire, flood, tornado, hurricane or eartquake...be honest~ depending on where you live anyone of these things can occur! Believe me I get a sick feeling when I think about things like this~but I can say that I did have to think about this a few years back.

We were living in New Braunfels TX and on my birthday in 1998 we had decided to go out of town for the day for some business. We drove to Corpus Christi TX which is about 150 miles maybe from where we lived. While we were gone there were terrential rains in and around the San Antonio area (New Braunfels is 22 miles outside of there) a needless to say alot of things flooded and water was high!

We had decided to cook out some steaks for my special day so we stopped at the grocery store before heading home~there was alot of people shopping but we didn't think anything about it. We drove to our apartment~we lived on the banks of the Guadalupe River in a gated community. It was pitch black dark~the gates were open and when we drop up to the steps to our apartment there was police stripping across the walkway bridge to the step to our place.

Since we were gone we didn't know what had occured~but while we were gone the river had rose and flooded the first floor apartments (we lived on the 2nd) There was about a mile of walking paths and it was atleast 200 yards to the other side of the river and the water had rose to just 4 feet from our apartment. The first floor had 5 feet of flowing water going thru it!

To make a long story short we crossed the police stripping and went into out apartment~we couldn't stay so we had to take what we could.

We gathered up our dog and cat and a few changes of clothes and left!

I never dreamed I would ever be in a situation like that~where I had to make choices on what to take...what was important to me.

In writing this I suppose what I'm trying to say is "what if"~would you know where to find things that you needed to take with you?? or wanted to take with you??

In looking around my house today I can say that I couldn't find much of anything if I had to leave like that!

Think about this past months post~there has been alot of information posted. What have you tried or used to get your home in order???

We were out of our apartment for 4 days. Thank God we didn't lose anyof our belongings. But alot of people did. You would think that going thru something like this would make me realize I need to have things in order~but it didn't.

I am working to make things better~

mgf~
