| I have a question for all of you with carpets. Until a few months ago, I had all hardwood floors. They were fairly easy to maintain... a casual sweep every-other day, and a mop every other week. (Mop up spills immediately, of course). Just this little floor maintanance worked wonders at keeping the room looking tidy.
Well, in an effort to save on the heating bills, DH got the idea to get a large area rug for the middle of the LR. I HATE this! I am literally vacuuming EVERY DAY! Not just once a week, as recommended for general housecleaning. EVERY DAY! I see some of you thinking "Try removing your shoes before you enter the room". Okay, DH isn't going to be worried about taking off his shoes at 3 in the morning when he gets home from work. So, that's out. I've tried spraying the carpet with Static Guard... doesn't help. Thought maybe that would repel dust and other small particles of dirt. Nope.
I give up... does anyone want a royal blue area rug? I want my hardwood back! It wasn't this bad before the carpet!
Oh! And HE wants wall to wall carpeting someday! Over my dead body that'll be lying under the hardwood floor!
How often do all of you have to vacuum your carpets? | | | | | Moderator Level up: 34%, 59 Points needed |

| Well I vacuumm once or twice a day. We have beige carpet in the living room, hallway and one bedroom the other room has steel blue carpet. I also vacuumm the kitchen and bathroom and it has vinyl flooring. I know I have a problem and I should seek help right? It is the samething with ironing and laundry. If I don't have a load of laundry a day I go nuts and yes I iron sheets and pillow cases, however I have broke the habit of ironing jeans and undies.

| Ok, you all are going to think I live in a pig sty now. But here goes!
I'm lucky if I get to vacuum twice a month! One trick to this is that I have off white with brown, black, green, and blue flecked berber wall to wall carpet in the family room. You absolutely cannot see hardly anything on it. It just looks like the carpet.
The bedrooms, dining room, and hall way have cream color carpet in them. The boys vacuum their rooms whenever I force them to clean. The hall way and dining room get vacuumed about as often as the family room because it is very old, and my MIL and BIL stained them soooooooo badly when they lived there. I want to get rid of the cream carpet and put in hardwood floors in the dining room, computer room and hall way. SOON!
Someday, the boys rooms will get new flooring too. Probably when they move out. Those carpets are stained really bad too, with craft paints, printer ink, etc. My MIL and BIL were not very careful. But that's a whole 'nuther Bi**h.
Anyway, I do sweep my kitchen floor at least once a week.
I just don't have a whole lot of time to vacuum and dust weekly. I'm lucky to get my laundry done all in one day. With working 8 or 9 hours a day and then going to kids sports almost every night, I'm pretty busy outside of the house.
I've gotten pretty good at disguising my dirt. | | | | | Moderator Level up: 41%, 5 Points needed |

| I am sooo glad that we took the carpet out of the livingroom! We put in laminate in a royal oak color. I sweep it every couple of days and I cringe at the amount of stuff I sweep up! It makes me wonder at what didn't come out of the rug! Yuck!!
We still have carpet in the office and the craft room (which was the spare bdrm) upstairs and most of the basement is carpeted. I think we're going to put laminate or lino in the office and craft rooms. I'm not sure about the basement though as we have cement floors and the other bdrms are down there. We'd have to do sub-flooring then to make it warmer and that runs into more $. I vacuum down there about once a week.Twice sometimes. | | | | | Senior Member Points: 14,970, Level: 53 | Level up: 54%, 480 Points needed |

| I have carpet throughout my house..well not in the kitchen, diningroom or bathroom...I would love to have new carpeting.
Maybe that will be my HUGE gift to myself when I finally get the house decluttered.
I really didn't care much or vacuuming until I got this new vacuum a few years ago. It is a Dyson~That thing really SUCKS! Well you know what I mean~
A friend of mine purchased one and let me borrow hers...I went from room to room and when I changed rooms I would empty the dift cup/holder. By the time I finished vacuuming all of the rooms I had filled a Walmart plastic bag 1/2 way full with dirt! Now mind you I I did vacuum often with my other Kenmore vacuum...it just didn't do the trick!
Now that I can see what I'm pulling out of my carpet I like to vacuum more.
I can see where the carpet would keep things warmer but the tile floor is better for allergies!

| I love this subject cause now I don't feel so bad!!
Should let DH read it too!!!
We have pretty much nearly new carpet throughout the house except the kitchen and bathrooms!! Yes my dinning room is carpeted, only because it was a Games room first with Pool table dart board and tv for sporting evens!!
We have only been in this house for 10 years and all but 3 we were alone!! The rooms that seem to need the most work are the Tv room and kitchen!! I do them when I notice they need to be done!! I pick up and wipe up when needed!! I hate vacumming thats why it doesn't get done so much plus I didn't have the energy to do it!!
Now I vac the kitchen about every 2 days, the tv room gets done about once a week!! The dining and sitting room just before company comes, along with the dusting!! Same with spare rooms!!
Our bedroom when we think of it!!
Grant and I are not messy people and we have no pets so the house always looks tidy!! Well my messes I keep to my desk and work room!!
That's the long and short of it for me!!
The problen with your carpet is the colour!! The darker the colour the more you notice the lint and such!! Maybe it's a good thing!!
Our bedroom is an off white with flecks of blue and beige and browns!! Can't see anything on it!! I love it!!
My living room is a soft rose colour, I notice the foot prints more than the lint!! Downs stairs is a blue grey, doesn't show much, my dinning room is dark green, beige and burgandy dimonds and it hides a lot too!! | | | Hugs!!
