Money Saving Tip for Swimming Pools |

| I don't know if this idea goes here, but it has to do with your yard and garden. We have a 24 foot swimming pool in our back yard/garden. Well we have had a drought this past year and even though we have had alot of rain this spring ,it still is not enough. So for the past 2 years my husband has connected a 10 foot piece of rain spout to the down spout from our deck roof. This piece of spouting goes to the swimming pool. Everytime it rains water is added to the pool and we have not had to fill it at all. Make sure to put a nylon knee hi on the end of the spout that goes into the pool so dirt doesn't go in there. To secure it I put a rubber band around it. To put the piece of spouting on, my husband disconnected the down spout from the spouting that goes across the front of the deck roof, add an elbow , put on your straight piece and you are ready to go. You would not believe how much water you get in the pool. You are conserving water and saving on your water bill.
Everyone who has a pool knows that after vacuming your pool, you have to backwash and rinse water from your sand filter to get rid of the dirt and leaves etc that you picked up. The dirty water is pumped out and disposed of. By doing this you lose water weekly. Eventually you have to top your pool off to keep it at a running level for the pump to filter your pool. By using this water from the rainspout you save money. Of course it has to rain to do this. If you have kids in the pool, they also splash water out. We had rain all weekend and of course the rain goes into the pool, but you really get water from the spouting. We had the pool filled to the top . The water just gushed out of the spouting into the pool. If you didn't do this you could easily have to put in about 100 gallons of water from the hose. |
