Question Christmas stocking holders for mantle
Old 11-20-2008, 02:53 PM   #1 (permalink)

Hi,

I would like to know if there's a way to make your own Christmas stocking holders for the mantle. I know there's got to be someone out there who knows how to make these! They are incredibly expensive in the stores, especially when you have 11 stockings to hang on the mantle! Any suggestions would be appreciated! I have a new mantle, so I don't want to put in nails or screw in cup holder hooks as I have in the past.

Thanks so much!

another option would be the purse hangers at the dollar store (they come in packs of 2) they are meant to hold heavy purses so I think they should hold a stocking just fine :)

Depending on the shape of the molded edge of the mantle, you make your own with some metal coat hangers.Snip off the hook part, straighten, measure across the mantle to wall, mark the spot to fold the hanger..see pic, wrap with cloth or yarn,etc....I did this same thing on my new mantle...

Sounds great, but what keeps the hanger on top of the mantle so that it doesn't flip off when you put the stockings on? Do you have to tape the long part down on top of the mantle?

Just make sure the part that goes under and over the mantle edge fits snug.If you plan to have them filled and still hanging and the stockings are heavy, you may need to add a weight over the longer part or use tape...
