Question Handbag Hanger/Organizer
Old 10-22-2008, 12:23 AM   #1 (permalink)

Hi everyone

My daughter has asked me to make her one of these for Christmas to hang her handbags on. See link - Handbag Hanger

The trouble is that I can't find a pattern to make one and I am not confident enough to "wing it."

Has anyone made one yet? If so, would you mind sharing it? Or does anyone know a website or pattern link I could visit?

Thanks in advance.

Did you click on one and then scroll down? It kind of gives a pattern. I'm sure you could make one. They used grommets, but there must be something else to use.

Kinda looks like you make some loops with snaps to run through the handles of the handbags. Looks like they may be placed about every 4 or 5 inches apart. Take a paper grocery bag and cut some strips for the main back part and for the tabs, and do some experimenting. You might find it easier than you think. Good luck and let us know how you are doing with it!

it looks pretty basic like a long strip with a grommet on the top to hang and flaps that attache with snaps to hold the purses.... does that make sense ?

Hmm - thanks for the information so far.

I guess one of the other things that I considered was to use D rings and swivels and sew them with small tabs.

One of my main concerns is that once the hanger is hung up - and bags are on each tab, that the weight of the the bag will drag the top part of the tab and pull the fabric - I hope you can follow what I mean.

So, in that case is it possible that the front long piece of fabric is glued to or somehow adhered to a stiffener of sorts, be it cardboard, masonite etc.

Cheers
HB

What a GREAT idea! It sure would be nice to get my purse hung up where I can see/find them better.

HB the gals are right u can do this I think I would get a good stabblizer a heavy canves ? material along with double gromets at top for hanging and make strip as long as 36' or longer (deppening on how many purses ).....and space out 4 to 6 2'wide 81/2'long for purse loops( and sew on and then maybe buy snaps to hold loops shut so snap flips up from bottom and snaps to where you sewed on loops GEE does that make sence I could draw a pattern an post...
