Default Cutting styrofoam
Old 09-22-2008, 12:58 PM   #1 (permalink)

Does anyone have any idea on how to cut styrofoam?? I was told ages ago that an electric knife would work but it isn't working for Joe.
This is the green styrofoam from Michaels. Maybe it's different then the white?? It's 12" wide & about 4" deep & 36" long.

HELP please!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the idea Debbie. That may work to cut it initially, but, to try & carve prove a problem.

Debbie...it's landscaping for a railroad with carved hills, stone, tracks, trees, brush, grasses, a grape vineyard, pumpkin patch etc.
It's all out of Joes imagination so there is no pattern to speak of. It's all freehand cutting.
Does that help ?? or confuse

Something you could try is a length of wire heated by a candle and it will ment it, but carving Ugh! How about a drumel electric tool, do you have anything like that!! It comes with a bunch of different bits and attachments!!

Good luck Hon!!!

Thanks for the ideas Patricia. Joe does have a dremel & will use it for the smaller detail. But, the bed for rocks he has planned for around the track & the hills will probably be tougher to do.
Seems it will just take a bit of time.

I have used the heated wire for many things, but not for carving!! I think if it was a good stiff wire it would work, but wear a mask!! I would imagine it wouldn't be good for you!!LOL

Sorry I wasn't more help Hon!!
