Default country/shabby chic signs help
Old 09-13-2008, 11:23 AM   #1 (permalink)

Hi all I am new to the community and I am hoping you can help.

I would like to have a go at making shabby chic/country style signs, the type with the little messages that are decorated with buttons and ribbon for my friends and family. I have some wood blanks, ribbons and loads of idea's for decorating but I dont know were to get started! I need help with instructions on putting on font (including what type of font), types of paint to use and that sort of thing.

Thank you in advance

I've seen others use a lettering guide. They just place the guide on the blank wood, and apply paint to the letter they want. Then remove the guide. When dry, they move on to the next letter. Most places that carry office and scrapbooking supplies will have lettering guides.

For most shabby chic signs you will see a scrip letter, meaning it looks like hand writing, on country or prim you will see anything from simple stencils, bought at most stores including $ stores, to simple hand printing.

I use folk art paint(can buy at the $ store too) But you can use any home paint, but not oils. your lettering can be done with the same kinds of paints, and also paint pens.

Hope this helps
