Question I need help
Old 12-06-2007, 12:33 AM   #1 (permalink)

Hi Everybody

I need some help please. I am looking for ideas to make a screen (or some people call it a room divider). It must have 3 sections and be able to fold up against the wall when not needed. It can have a wooden frame with either material in the middle or wood. I need it for my beauty salon for some privacy when I am doing my facials. Do you have any ideas? Please I could certainly use the help.

Regards

I really dont think it would be too difficult, If you use 1x2 wood its easy to cut. I would consider doubling the screen , meaning each panel have two frames with the fabric stapled in between. Just measure the space you want it for divide by three to get the size of each panel and make six, make sure you paint before hand so its dry when you attach fabric. I would use three small hinges on each side of the middle panel to attach the outer panels. If not sure about what size to make I think the Sears catologue might have one you could get measurements from. Hope this helps abit.

Here is an idea I have used as long as you can use an electric screw driver . It really is very simple. I got lucky as I found mine put out for the trash by someone who didn't need them. You can look in salvage or architectural salvage shops or buy them new at a hardware store. I am talking about door length louvred doors. You can make them as long or short as you need. I hinged 4 together and put casters on the bottom for ease of moving. The louvers let you have the privacy you need and a double bonus of being able to hang things from them. I used decorative glass doornobs on each side and they make great coat hangers. I use my divider near my entryway to afford some privacy to the livingroom. At Christmas time I hang my cards on the louvers too. I hope this idea works for you.

Wow the louvres is a great idea as well. Wouldn't it look great if it had a vintage look? Like cracks!

Hi Pampoentjie,
The antique look is very hot right now. I had meant to add that I painted an ochre under coat then added another top coat in a gold like color then used crackle medium to give the doors that antique look. Almost a patina. I get a lot of comments from friends asking were I bought them from. They are amazed when I tell them I did it myself. It really is a very easy project to do and it doesn't take too long. I have a short attention span when it comes to decorating so if I can do it. It should be a breeze for you. Good luck in deciding what sort of dividers you choose, I am sure they will look awesome.
