Talking Wood Fiber Flowers

I asked this question a few years ago and only one person knew what I was talking about, thought maybe some of the new members might know. Back in the late 50's early 60's my mother used to make the most beautiful flowers using little sheets (about 4 X 4 in) of wood fiber. They were so beautiful and incredibly realistic. Anyone out there remember them? Is the material still available? Would love to surprise my mom with information about this, she is blind now but I am sure she could help me get started by giving me infor and hints.

Have an AWESOME day!

Thanks for the picture but that's isn't the material my mom used to use. The wood fibre my mom used was soft and pliable and came in all colors including varigated. Felt almost like a very fine velvet. I do appreciate your help though. Thanks

I have been searching for the wood fiber packets for years now and haven't been able to find any. I did find an instruction book with patterns its called Petal Fresh Flowers made with Wood Fibre. It sells for $8.00 at KarensVariety.com Check it out. I used to make really great corsages and floral arrangements with my little box and wood fibre packets.

If you ever find any, please email me.

Thanks

Magstra

Thanks for the book info. I think I may have tracked down a company that made the stuff in the 50's. I am going to try to contact them, probably on Monday since it is to late today. I will post what I find out here. Cross your fingers that it is good news.

I finally got a response from Fibre Craft Materials Corp. The Fibre-Craft company founded on wood fibre many years ago. Wood fibre has not been produced there in 30 years or more. The lady I spoke with said that with the comming of silk flowers etc. people lost interest and they discontinued the line. She also told me that no one at the company (including the son of the founder) had any idea if it was still in production anywhere or if it was produced under a different name. She was very helpful but could not give me the information I WANTED to hear. I guess I will continue my search. If anyone else has any other ideas, let me know. Thanks for your interest, encouragement and help. Have a wonderful day.

Wood Fiber

Did you ever find where to purchase wood fibre? I just found a woman in Indianapolis that has a shop that sells them, but I cannot locate an address for her. She had an article on Profitfrog.com called The Future in Fibre Flowers; her name is Euna Douglass. If you find more information on her shop, I would appreciate hearing from you.

I used to manage a hobby shop in the 60's that carried Formosan Wood Fiber & that's where I learned to make flowers out of them. I still have a few corsages that I made back then. They look pretty good considering their age! The most realistic ones I made were gardenias & orchids.

Good luck!

teemsum, I ran across that article by Euna Douglass also but I think it is quite old. I also found a flower pattern book by Ms Douglass from 1954, but thats it. I have not found anything else so far but I keep hoping and looking. Let me know if you find anything.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I ran across these 2 sites, I thought maybe you could call or email them to find out where they get the wood fiber to make the flowers. Hope this helps.
1)Flowers of Wood.com

2)THE LADIES PAGE
