| My granddaughter is nearly 21, but when she was little, her first Halloween costume was a Pink Bunny--it was a pink sweatsuit which I added an oversize large pompom to the rear for the tail--I made her a skull cap from pink felt--added ribbon to each side so that it could be tied under her neck--with additional pink felt and some pipe cleaners, I fashioned her two bunny ears to the skull cap and tack them in place with a needle and thread--I took my eyebrow pencil and painted her some whiskers and a small triangle on her nose--she had a small plastic carrot toy that I tied a ribbon on to make a necklace. She was comfortable, warm and it cost almost nothing to make.

The next year, she went as Raggedy Anne. I took a short sleeve red gingham shirt (that belonged to her mom)--buttoned it up in the back instead of the front--tied one of my white aprons around her waist--put her white tights on her legs and her black dress shoes--and I bought her a pair of white gloves--I made the "wig" from a skein of red yarn (wrapping it around a pc. of cardboard--then taking a small pc. of red felt and sewing a "part" in the middle of the hair--after that, I braided the "hair" and tied white ribbons at the end of the two braids--I sewed two red ribbons to the "part" so that it could be tied under her neck)--I used some lipstick to make her cheeks rosy and she was ready!

I thought of something last night--what about a bumble bee? Dressed in a black sweat suit with yellow electrical tape (it comes in many colors and can be found at the $ stores) wrapped around for the stripes--a cone shaped pc. of black card stock or construction paper for the stinger--and a head band with pipe cleaners for the antenna with pompoms glued at the end.
Or a flower? dress them in green clothing--cut out large petals from funfoam and glue them into a circle to frame their face--attach ribbons to each side of the "flower" and tie it in the back of their head or neck area. Their face would be the center of the "flower".
Hope this gives you some ideas! |
